Robert Montgomery follows a tradition of conceptual art and stands out by drawing from examples of public interventionist strategies and bringing a poetic voice to the discourse of text art. He creates billboards, light pieces, fire poems, woodcuts and watercolours. He has been called a vandal, a street artist, a post-situationist, a punk artist and the text-art Banksy. Scottish poet Robert Montgomery has consciously made an “awkward space” for himself in between artistic categories – and he thoroughly enjoys it. He was the British artist selected for kochi-muziris biennale 2012, the first biennale in India. Montgomery has had solo exhibitions at venues in Europe and Asia, including major outdoor light installations on the site of the old U.S. air force base at Tempelhof. The first monograph of his work was published by Distanz, Berlin in 2015. Robert Montgomery was born in Scotland in 1972. He studied at Edinburgh college of art and then in the core program at the museum of fine arts, Houston. He has lived in London since 1999. Robert Montgomery is the in-house artist of Each x Other. When Ilan Delouis and Jenny Mannerheim founded the company they based the name of the brand of the poem by Robert Montgomery ‘SAFE AND WARM HERE / IN THE FIRE OF EACH OTHER. Each collection correlates to his artworks or poems.
