Austyn Weiner is a Los Angeles-based artist, born and raised in Miami, Florida. Best known for her large scale paintings and cut out figure works, Austyn explores the duality and fluidity of experience through her writings and paintings.
For the collaboration, Austyn transformed a selection of her paintings, drawings, and text-based works into hand-painted and printed textiles, fluid forms, and silhouettes reflective of her own figure: both vulnerable and honest. Through this collaboration, Austyn has given her work an additional dimension, a new texture, and physical motion.
“To me, this collection is about being fearlessly yourself. It is about embracing the idea of identity and feeling safe inside of who you really are. ” – Austyn Weiner (Vogue, 2019)
The collection evokes sartorial memories of Weiner’s childhood growing up in Miami with looks inspired by her mother: a New Yorker living in the tropics, who wore black turtlenecks year-round. Channeling the collection theme of a dark summer, Weiner’s signature floral motifs and black & white crayon drawings are translated into statement silk sets and lustrous mesh pieces in celebration of self-expression and freedom of duality.
