Ann Grim

ANN GRIM IS A PARIS-BASED DESIGNER WHO AIMS TO “TRANSGRESS FUNCTIONAL STANDARDS THROUGH UNUSUAL PROPORTIONS AND DIMENSIONS.” AFTER ATTENDING THE MET DE PENNINGHEN WORKSHOP IN 1999, SHE DECIDED TO TURN HER ATTENTION TO INTERIOR DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE. HER ARTISTIC PHILOSOPHY IS TO REACH OUT TO THOSE WHO EXPERIENCE A PIECE OF HER FURNITURE OR A PLACE SHE HAS DESIGNED, ENGENDERING WITHIN THEM A NEW VISION OF FURNITURE THAT EMPHASIZES INDIVIDUAL INTERPRETATION. “THE FORMS SUGGEST, YOU INTERPRET”. SHE OFFERS A REVOLUTIONARY VISION OF FURNITURE BY ALTERING PROPORTIONS AND DIMENSIONS OF CERTAIN ELEMENTS OF ANY GIVEN PIECE, HENCE EXPANDING ITS FUNCTIONALITY. A TABLE IS NO LONGER JUST A TABLE, BUT CAN BE TRANSFORMED, SUBSTITUTED FOR A SEAT OR A DESK. HER MAJOR INFLUENCES ARE THE MODERNIST MOVEMENT AND THEORETICAL REFLECTIONS OF URBAN CONCENTRATION PROBLEMS, AS WELL AS “ORGANIC” ARCHITECTURE.
